OUTSTANDING WORK OF THE MONTH
Every month students submit assignments and case histories. Some of the work is truly outstanding and is of value to students, practitioners and clients. Here is the best student work for November 2007.
Describe how your perception of colon hydrotherapy and yourself as a future colon therapist has changed compared to the start of the course (500 words please).
Having taken the decision to diversify upon my professional nursing skills, I came onto this course with an open mind. I had experienced 2 colonics, approached in 2 very different ways, and was able to analyze what I liked and disliked about each of them. I was also quite analytical about the way in which I would do things different.
I was able to ask a colleague of mine who attended another school what her feelings about her course were, and was quite surprised to find that she was not particularly impressed by the training but she had got the certificate she needed to give her the credibility to practice.
As I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person, if that’s what I had to do to enable me to practice so be it. My initial scan of the Chi Centre training manual was that I wouldn't’ have any trouble getting through the assignments. The reality was that I had to spend 4 weeks studying the manual before I could put pen to paper. This was going to be harder than I thought!! Why did I need to know this in such depth to perform such a straightforward procedure?
Now having almost completed the course, I know that is essential that the students’ knowledge of the working of the human digestive system is important to be able to bring together what the client tells you, what they are not telling you and what you see and feel while undertaking the treatment.
I feel that, unconsciously, prior to the course, I have viewed the treatment more as a procedure than a therapy but can now view the treatment more holistically, and be able to offer the client a better service by being able to see the bigger picture.
In my professional life, I do many procedures, which offer solutions to problems, and whilst I try to be holistic in my approach, my 10 or 15 minutes of time which is allocated to me per person, dictates that maybe my approach is more practitioner focused than client/patient focused.
My professional skills have made it easier for me to grasp the practical aspects of colon hydrotherapy, and I am quite proud of myself for this.
I am enjoying the luxury of being able to spend an hour with clients, taking cues from them which enable me to focus upon their needs. On reflection, I now wish I had though about doing this a couple of years ago.
Looking forward, I can see that I already need to expand my knowledge of nutrition as I can already see a pattern in the reasons why people chose to embark upon colonics as a therapy.
The course has given me excellent grounding to make the change in my career and I am looking forward to the next year of building a new business and watching myself develop.
