Anatomy and Physiology for Colon Therapists

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY FOR COLON HYDROTHERAPISTS
FOUNDATIONS OF ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
FOR COLON HYDROTHERAPISTS

From July 2008, you will need to have completed a pre-study course in foundations of Anatomy and Physiology in order to enroll on
the Colon Hydrotherapy Foundation Course.
(Those with existing A&P qualifications will not need to do this course
before enrolling on the Colon Hydrotherapy Foundation Course.
Proof of qualifications will be required. )

Course objective: Colon hydrotherapists deal with the human body on a daily basis, and knowledge of anatomy and physiology is absolutely crucial in order to become a competent and safe practitioner. The course is designed for about 50 to 75 hours of study.

You will be provided two course manuals which are standard industry texts in the training of holistic therapists.

Course outline:
The course is divided into 12 modules, each designed for 4 to 6 hours of study. Each module comprises information on the body systems, multiple-choice assignments (50 MCQs in each assignment) and critical thinking questions requiring short and concise answers.

The following systems are covered (in the alphabetical order):

  • Cells and Tissues;
  • Circulatory System;
  • Digestive system;
  • Endocrine system;
  • Lymphatic system and immunity;
  • Muscular system;
  • Nervous system;
  • Reproductive system;
  • Respiratory system;
  • Skeleton;
  • Skin, Hair and Nails;
  • Urinary System.

As the course is specifically designed for colon hydrotherapy students, alongside the general overview of human anatomy and physiology, the course critical thinking questions focus in particular on the following aspects of human anatomy and physiology:

  • The nature of health and the nature of disease;
  • Homeostasis;
  • Anatomy of the abdominal cavity;
  • The digestive system from the mouth to the anus;
  • The endocrine system  and the hormones affecting the digestive tract;
  • Physiology of digestion and factors affecting it;
  • The nervous system, specifically, the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous systems;
  • Physiology, stress and emotions;
  • Effects of stress on all systems of the body;
  • Effects of nutrition on all systems of the body.

The course is assessed on coursework - 12 multiple choice and critical thinking and observation questions - and a final 1,000 word essay.
